One of the most stringent cultural media regulations for minors may soon get passed into law in Texas, including outlawing access to those under 18 years old.
House Bill 186 may require years identification for everyone else creating a new account in addition to prohibiting minors from creating new social media accounts on companies like TikTok, Instagram, and X. Parents may ask for a child’s social media account to be deleted in accordance with the law, and the program must do so within 10 days in exchange for fines and legal action. The bill’s supporters claim that it will stop adolescents from experiencing the emotional wellbeing damage caused by social media.
The bill passed the Texas House of Representatives, but it still needs to go through the state senators and getting Greg Abbott’s name. A provincial judge thwarted a similar laws passed in Utah last month, which was afterwards blocked. Additionally, a legal dispute involving social media regulations in Florida is raging.  ,
