We have a year until Apple’s Worldwide Developer Conference, where we can get a first look at what the company has been working on for iOS 19 the technology that powers the iPhone. Until , June 9, while, CNET’s experts have their own thoughts about what Apple should be working on– and finally announcing.
While iOS 18 added some helpful innovative features to all iPhones, including Apple Intelligence and RCS communication, we’re also betting on what Apple may add to iOS 19. According to reports, Apple is reportedly working on a major redesign of the iPhone OS, including a complete overhaul of the icons, apps, menus, and other features. But CNET’s authors and readers have a few ideas we’d like to see in the future OS. Some of the things we’ve requested in the past, such as personalized switch camera settings, have come to fruition, so we might hit the mark once more this year.
We’re aiming for the release of iOS 19 program with some of the features and changes that we hope Apple will include.  ,
Bring the iPhone’s cut panel to life
Create a local cut display. It’s been around for centuries on iPads and Android devices. But on iphone I still have to move my computer and finances tracking note in two distinct windows.  ,

Start a training appropriate from my iPhone
I’d like the ability to start an outdoor workout from the Fitness app on my iPhone ( like I can do in Strava or Polar ). In this way, I can also record my routine if I forget to use my Apple Watch or don’t have one. I don’t understand why the iPhone didn’t give me credit for a run that was performed using heart rate information, which is used to calculate move minutes.  ,

Please, no more efficient bubble.
I’m thrilled that iOS 18 now supports RCS messaging, but I’m going to have a huge dream: I’d love it if texts sent by Android users weren’t also green! While it’s great to be able to finally take high-resolution media and see browsing indicators with folks who aren’t even using iMessage, it’s still far too simple for iPhone users to scoff at anyone turning their text thread clean. Put an end to the selfishness forever!

An easier way to handle unused programs
I have more software on my phone than I’ll ever usage, after decades of installing things to try out and then forgetting about them. The App Library assists in getting it out of mind, but it’s just like keeping a container of cables you’d like to use one evening. In response, I’d like a method to clear up programs that look identical to what you can do with large applications in Settings, General, and Storage. Let me see when I installed them, the next time I used them and be able to remove the people I no longer need. This may seem fiddly, but it will never come to mind that I have to personally go through them all.

Searchable folder manager for all your copy and paste requires
I want a whiteboard director in iOS 19. The phone has a single copy and paste feature, which means that the first thing you copied is lost if you copy something and then copy something different. For iphone 19, I’d like to see a searchable folder manager that keeps track of everything I’ve copied in the last hour, day, week, or even quarter. And if I paste things, I’d like to see several options that I can choose from look straight at my fingers.

More customization possibilities for all windows
Please give me more options for switch screen, home monitor, and Control Center customization. I’d like to house my switch panel controls elsewhere on the monitor so I don’t inadvertently start any control– including, yes, my flashlight. Same goes for the home camera. As long as they are within Apple’s harsh network that confines our applications into tiny boxes, I appreciate being able to spot apps wherever. If you have big icons– like I do– there’s an overall empty column at the bottom where it looks like applications or folders can go there but they can’t. Apple, let us breathe the air of freedom! Please allow me to move the scroll bar on the right side of the Control Center for the love of everything good. I keep hitting it when I open the Control Center and it takes me to a page I don’t intend to be on, which makes it frustrating to use.  ,

Long press, double click and more action button triggers
Now that the Action button is on more iPhones, please add support for triggering different shortcuts with multiple presses. I can set the Action button to trigger one action at a time in its current configuration. By default, it can switch between turning on the ringer and putting your iPhone in silent mode. But there are a number of other options for it like being able to open the Camera app and take a photo or make an elaborate automation in the Shortcuts app like to use it to , order coffee from Dunkin’.
However, if Apple made the ability to support multiple input clicks, the Action button could do so much more. Like if you use a single long press to toggle between ringer and silent mode but a double long press to toggle between the two options ( turn on/off the flashlight ) would be preferable. I think this would add so much functionality to the button and as a result open it up to even more people taking more advantage of it.

Better Log video editing tools
You can already shoot Log videos on your iPhone, now we just need better editing tools for those videos on the device.
I want to see better video editing options in iOS 19. The ability to shoot Log footage directly on the iPhone is amazing for enthusiastic filmmakers like me but it can only be edited by transferring it off of your phone to an iPad or MacBook. I’d like to see Apple develop more advanced editing tools so you can add cinematic color grades to your Log footage saved directly to your iPhone.  ,

Intelligently arrange photos in the Photos app by event.
Okay, we’re all glad that Apple made it easier to search for photos in iOS 18 by including AI image recognition to bring up all of your cat’s images. It partially makes up for the dreadful revamped arrangement of photos and albums that still confounds me today. I’d love it if in iOS 19, the Photos app had a new way to view photos: in a timeline intelligently organized by event. Imagine you have a birthday party and have several photos that are clearly from the same day; the app asks you to confirm that they are all connected, asks for a title, and then gets the event logged. Then, if I can’t quite recall, say, when I last went to the park, I could look at a vertical timeline of logged events from the past few months or years. All of which could be searched. Yes, I can do this manually by making albums, but it’s the kind of fastidious labor I just can’t bring myself to keep up with. That is what I want AI to accomplish for me.  ,

The iPhone has simple volume controls throughout.
Sometimes, minor adjustments can make a transaction smoother. I want to see Apple’s volume controls cleaned up. If I set the volume to a certain level, I want it to stay at that level for all applications. Occasionally, the settings can change based on what you’re doing. Too frequently do I experience the issue of turning down my volume so I can listen while surprised! — the volume is loud again because I put in headphones and it keeps the louder setting I used the last time I listened to music in my headphones. It just causes unnecessary annoyance and makes users feel as though they don’t really have control over their devices.
