ChatGPT’s ability to retain and learn the facts and details you provide in conversation is no longer restricted to premium subscribers. The AI robot will then make references to recent conversations with people who have a free-tier membership, according to an X post from OpenAI on Tuesday.
Tens of thousands of tokens ( or individual queries ) can be saved in OpenAI’s chatbot at any point in time, but recent memory updates have enabled ChatGPT to extract even more information from previous messages, ranging from your name to situations where you asked for advice before. ( Disclosure: CNET’s parent company, Ziff Davis, sued OpenAI in April, alleging that it violated Ziff Davis ‘ copyrights when it trained and ran its AI systems. )
This level of adaptability affects how the chatbot will tailor its responses as far back as the database of your queries extends, allowing users to” train” ChatGPT to fit their needs ( whether it’s fixing tech problems or finding a romantic partner ).
It’s unclear how many tokens the robot will keep and process for the free membership level, but the memory upgrade for free-tier chatters is a “lightweight” edition of what Plus- and Pro-tier ChatGPT subscribers can currently access.
What is clear is that the robot for OpenAI’s free version will now be trained to produce more personal reactions. The new memory upgrade makes ChatGPT Free stand out among the rest of the competition, and it has been very ranked on  and CNET’s list of the best AI bots.
The personalization section of the options menu allows you to turn off ChatGPT’s capability to preserve memories. You must delete the unique query and instruct the chatbot to forget the memory so that it can’t erase the ones that the AI now has saved.
