For CNET’s tax impact tracker, I’ve been monitoring many well-known products every day and keeping an eye out for price increases as a result of President Donald Trump’s import tax plan. Most prices I’ve been looking at have remained steady thus much, apart from a significant boost for the Xbox 360 Series X, and the odd discounts during major purchase periods, which is currently the case for some famous earbuds and a budget-friendly soundbar. Despite all of this, the effects of these transfer taxes are still being felt until a , business court ruling or halts them.

The Trump presidency has, understandably, decried this decision– which said Trump had no authority to set taxes as he has been– and moved quickly to demand that the Supreme Court strike it over. In the end, we’ll see how that turns out, but for now, it’s still possible that the government’s tariff policies may cause price increases. That’s why I’m continuing to observe some essential products you may want or need to buy immediately, to keep track of the possible tariff impacts.

In most cases, the cost numbers used in these maps were pulled from Amazon using the traditional price-tracker application Keepa. The prices for the iPhones are based on the 128-gigabyte basic design of the most recent offerings for each year: the iPhone 14, phone 15, and iPhone 16. They are based on Apple’s established materials. For the Xbox 360 Series X, the charges were sourced from Best Get using the device PriceTracker. If any of these goods are going to be on sale at any particular moment, we’ll be sure to let you know and discuss how these value drops may be affected by potential longer-term sales trends.

iPhone 16

Since the iPhone is the most well-known brand of smartphones in the US, price tracking was a top priority. The iPhone has also emerged as a major focal point for conversations about tariffs, given its popularity and its susceptibility to import taxes because of its overseas production, largely in China. Trump reportedly has a fixation on the notion that the iPhone can and should be produced in the US, a notion that experts have dismissed as a fantasy. Estimates have also suggested that a US-made iPhone would cost as much as$ 3, 500.

The price shown is what you’ll see if you purchase your phone from a major carrier, so there’s something to keep in mind about this graph. If you, say, buy direct from Apple or Best Buy without a carrier involved, you’ll be charged an extra$ 30, so in some places, you might see the list price of the standard iPhone 16 listed as$ 830.
