Netflix is undoubtedly full of thought-provoking movies. The streamer’s non-fiction collection can be a little frustrating if you don’t understand what to see. The ridiculous, unpredictably unexpected Tiger King range is what I often want to watch when it comes to my desired documentary flavor. And, afraid I say it, I’ve been looking for anything strange to eat for a while. In The Kings of Tupelo: A Southwestern Murder Story, I discovered what I wanted. The story that unfolds around has stayed with me for decades, even though it’s a quick spree at just three one-hour shows.

The Kings of Tupelo was created by the brothers Maclain and Chapman Way, the boys who co-wrote Netflix’s Untold set and Wild Wild Country. A stranger-than-fiction real crime novel follows Paul Kevin Curtis, an Elvis impersonator and vocal conspiracy theory, who finds himself at the center of a small-town conflict that turns into a criminal hunt.

In Tupelo, Mississippi, where the King was born, the star of Elvis Presley permeates the identity of Curtis. His curiosity with Elvis led him to rock the step and perform his best Presley performance. In a city where Elvis lookalikes are a dime a dozen, Curtis established himself. Really, he won prizes.

After seeing his friend’s success, Jack Curtis, a man who runs a successful insurance agency, attempted his hands at doing the Elvis issue, which resulted in the boys ‘ formation of Double Trouble, the world’s primary combo troupe honoring The King. &nbsp,

One of The Kings of Tupelo’s many eccentricities is this, which is just one of its several. I wasn’t expecting the unexpected twists that were waiting for their turn to change things on their heads because I was uncomfortable with the fictional world that inspired the collection. This is a wild and always dull watch because everything changes from one WTF instant to another immediately.

I understand the condemnation that the line perpetuates preconceptions about the South. Yet, watching the set wasn’t something I experienced. As someone who has never been to the place, I found the agency’s cast of colorful characters endearing to the audience for how they depict the account. &nbsp,

The Kings of Tupelo is full of quirky people who feel like they walked straight out of a Coen Brothers movie, whether it’s Steve Holland, the funeral home director and past politician, who gladly leans into some great Boss Hogg energy or James Everett Dutschke, the psychopathic martial arts teacher, who would definitely send chills up John Kreese’s spine.

Curtis tells his tale through the lens of a finished screenplay throughout the three shows, giving it an off-kilter, cinema quality. The Ways ‘ narrative tone is able to hold its own, putting full strength on Curtis’s vision. The end result is a compelling video that occasionally has the feel of being inspired by a sprawling made-up thread he discovered during a thorough search on Reddit.

There are plenty of facts to back up the journey Curtis is taking us on. Yes, he engaged in verbal exchanges with several local businesses and individuals. Yes, he does adoration Tony Robbins, a self-improvement expert. He had to make his way back to the beginning because he was a crime idea seed. Similar to the time he unintentionally destroyed his home ( he blammed government officials for this ), which only strengthened his claim to be the victim in the future.

Curtis is a personality full of contradictions. He struggles to get out of his own manner, unable to accept that he may have caused his personal harm, or to acknowledge that he may have been to blame. He’s even the self-imposed essence of a small-town opponent with excellent storytelling skills. &nbsp,

And that’s definitely what makes him so fascinating to watch. You want to cuddle him for a moment, and you want to blow him in the neck the following second.

An beautifully timed next season brings the madness to a climax, dropping one incredible revelation after another on the viewer. It’s a really intriguing enjoy that culminates in an unanticipated pièce de résistance reveal, making the time spent here well-earned. &nbsp,

I previously mentioned a terrorist attack, which is where the show heavily focuses on the true crime style and is what made Curtis so popular. Although I didn’t go into all the details, I will say that the situation involves one of Curtis ‘ Tupelo rivalries, a president’s assassination attempt, and a ridiculous revenge plot that almost ended up imprisoning him for life.

Truly, The Kings of Tupelo are that great. It looks at Tupelo, Mississippi’s vibrant area and the King of Rock and Roll’s enduring legacy while exploring conspiracy theory and the online echo chambers that energy it. &nbsp,

Additionally, the series is a remarkably gripping underdog story about a guy who struggles to keep his lips shut or learn from his mistakes and the bizarre criminal conspiracy he accidently fell victim to. Put all of these things together, and it’s no wonder The Kings of Tupelo has been living rent-free in my head for the past several decades. &nbsp,
