What I’ve Found Tracking 11 Important Products for Changes in CNET Daily Tax Value Tracker

Trump’s levies could lead to rate increases that are closer than ever. James Martin/CNET

Taxes have been a popular theme for the past three months, making both consumers and businesses concerned: Will they go up or down, and by how much? It’s a problem more important than ever this year, as President Trump punts another main date down the road and with the alleviation of Amazon’s Prime Day revenue.

In light of those concerns, I’ve been monitoring costs every day for 11 important products likely to be affected by tariff-induced rate increases, and the result is this: Not so much, at least not already. The winding path of price inflation still stretches before us into an uncertain potential, but the risk of rate hikes continues to cloud the sky.

I’ve seen two notable rate rises to day, one for the Xbox One and the other for a well-known 4K TV, both of which are affordable. Some additional products– including Apple’s famous AirPods and printing paint– have gone on sale for short periods. &nbsp,

The average cost of the 11 products in this part will be shown in a table over over the course of 2025. This will help give you a sense of the overall value shifts and swings going on. Deeper down, you can check out the figures for each specific item being tracked. &nbsp,

As rates change, we’ll be updating this article often. It’s all in the title of helping you make sense of things, but be sure to check back every so often. For more information, consult CNET’s guideline on whether you should wait to make significant purchases or act now, and get expert advice on how to deal with a crisis.

Methodology

We’re checking costs regularly and will upgrade the article and the important charts straight away to reveal any changes. The most recent of the following charts, which is marked” Now,” displays the current value and displays a single bullet point for each month. For the past weeks, we’ve gone with what was the most popular price for each piece in the given month. &nbsp,

In most cases, the cost numbers used in these maps were pulled from Amazon using the traditional price-tracker application Keepa. The prices for the iPhones are based on the 128-gigabyte basic model of the most recent iPhone 16 release and are based on Apple’s established materials. For the Xbox Series X, the charges were sourced from Best Get using the device PriceTracker. If any of these goods are going to be on sale at any particular moment, we’ll be sure to let you know and discuss how these value drops may be affected by potential longer-term sales trends.

The 11 materials we’re tracking

Along with a common case of espresso, a more modest item that isn’t produced in the US in any significant way, we’re mostly tracking electrical devices and electronic items that CNET covers in depth, like iPhones and cheap 4K TVs. &nbsp,

The items featured were chosen for a number of reasons: some of them are well-known and/or reasonably priced representatives of well-known and affordable consumer tech categories, such as smartphones, TVs, and game consoles. Others are meant to represent things that consumers might buy more frequently, like printer ink or coffee beans. Some goods were chosen over others because they are likely to be more prone to tariffs. Some of these products have been reviewed by CNET or have been featured in some of our best lists.

We’ll expand on each individual product below, and stay until the end for a rundown of some worthwhile alternatives.

iPhone 16

Since the iPhone is the most well-known brand of smartphones in the US, price tracking was a top priority. The iPhone has also emerged as a major focal point for conversations about tariffs, given its popularity and its susceptibility to import taxes because of its overseas production, largely in China. Trump reportedly has a fixation on the notion that the iPhone can and should be produced in the US, a notion that experts have rejected as a fantasy. Estimates have also suggested that a US-made iPhone would cost as much as$ 3, 500.

The price shown on this graph is what you’ll see if you purchase your phone from a major carrier, though. If you, say, buy direct from Apple or Best Buy without a carrier involved, you’ll be charged an extra$ 30, so in some places, you might see the list price of the standard iPhone 16 listed as$ 830.

In response to these tariffs, Apple has been taking a few precautions, including moving production from China to India in bulk shipments of products before they go into effect. A new Reuters report found that a staggering 97 % of iPhones imported from the latter country, March through May, were bound for the US. Trump once more expressed his anger over this latter action, which CEO Tim Cook has repeatedly rejected in the past, threatening the company with a 25 % tariff if they didn’t move production to the US. This came after Trump gave a tariff exemption to electronic devices including smartphones, so the future of that move seems in doubt now.

Apple’s bestselling smartphone is still the top-selling device globally as of Q1 of this year, despite new research from Counterpoint suggesting that tariff uncertainty will slow the company’s growth for the rest of 2025.

Duracell AA batteries

Although many of the tech products in your home might have a rechargeable energy source, individual batteries are still a daily necessity, and I can tell you from experience that you’ll need to restock once you forget about them. The Duracell AAs we’re tracking are some of the bestselling batteries on Amazon.

Samsung DU7200 TV

Alongside smartphones, televisions are some of the most popular tech products out there, even if they’re an infrequent purchase. This particular item was CNET’s choice for best overall budget TV for 2025 because it is a popular 4K TV. Unlike a lot of tech products that have key supply lines in China, Samsung is a South Korean company, so it might have some measure of tariff resistance. &nbsp,

After spending most of 2025 hovering around$ 400, this item has now seen some notable upticks on Amazon, most recently sitting around$ 450. This could be in response to Trump’s announcement this week that there will be 25 % tariffs on South Korea.

Xbox Series X

A market segment dominated by the Trump tariffs is expected to suffer significantly from video game software and hardware. Microsoft’s Xbox is the first console brand to see price hikes&nbsp,– the company cited “market conditions” along with the rising cost of development. Most notable was the price increase for the flagship Xbox Series X, which increased from$ 500 to$ 600. Numerous Xbox accessories also were affected and the company also said that “certain” games will eventually see a price hike from$ 70 to$ 80.

As a first-time consumer, we were monitoring the price of the much-advanced Nintendo Switch as a market representative. Nintendo has not yet hiked the price of its handheld-console hybrid and stressed that the$ 450 price tag of the upcoming Switch 2 has not yet been inflated because of tariffs. Sony, in contrast, has so far only increased prices for its PlayStation hardware in markets outside the US.

AirPods Pro 2

The most recent iteration of Apple’s wildly popular true-wireless earbuds is now available to market the headphone market. Much to the chagrin of the audiophiles out there, a quick look at sales charts on Amazon shows you just how much the brand dominates all headphone sales. They have been on sale for the majority of the year at around$ 199, but they are currently on sale for$ 149 ahead of Prime Day sales this week.

HP 962 CMY printer ink

This HP printer ink is made up of cyan, magenta, and yellow all in one package, and it recently saw its price increase from about$ 72, which is about its highest level in the last five years. We will be keeping tabs to see if this is a long-term change or a brief uptick. Although the price of this product hasn’t significantly decreased since then, you can purchase some for$ 70 per pack for Amazon Prime Day, which is a$ 10 savings.

This product replaced Overture PLA Filament for 3D printers in this piece, but we’re still tracking that item.

Anker 30-watt power bank with 10 000-mAh.

Anker’s accessories are perennially popular in the tech space and the company has already announced that some of its products will&nbsp, get more expensive as a direct result of tariffs. This particular item has also been listed among CNET’s top picks for the best portable chargers. &nbsp,

Bose TV speaker

Soundbars have become important purchases, given the often iffy quality of the speakers built into TVs. The Bose TV Speaker is one of the more affordable soundbar options available, especially considering it comes from a company that is as well-known as Bose, despite not being the biggest or best option in the market. You can currently get this model at a healthy discount for Prime Day, down to$ 200 from$ 280.

Electric toothbrushes like the Oral-B Pro 1000

They might be a lot more expensive than their traditional counterparts but electric toothbrushes remain a popular choice for consumers because of how well they get the job done. My dentist will never forget how important I need one, I am sure. This particular Oral-B offering was CNET’s overall choice for the best electric toothbrush&nbsp, for 2025.

Chromebook from Lenovo IdeaPad Flex 5i

Lenovo is notable among the big laptop manufacturers for being a Chinese company making its products especially susceptible to Trump’s tariffs.

Starbucks Ground Coffee ( 28-ounce bag )

Coffee is included in this tracker because of its ubiquity– I’m certainly drinking too much of it these days– and because it’s uniquely susceptible to Trump’s tariff agenda. Known as the” Coffee Belt,” a tropical region largely outside the United States, limits the cultivation of coffee beans to a certain distance from the equator.

Hawaii is the only part of the US that can produce coffee beans, with data&nbsp, from USAFacts showing that 11.5 million pounds were harvested there in the 2022-23 season– little more than a drop in the mug, as the US consumed 282 times that amount of coffee during that period. Making matters worse, there hasn’t been as much production of Hawaiian coffee in the last few years.

All that to say: Americans get almost all of their coffee from overseas, making it one of the most likely products to see price hikes from tariffs.

Other goods

As mentioned, we occasionally swap out products with different ones that undergo notable price shifts. We’re still keeping an eye on some things that aren’t featured above, though:

Nintendo Switch: The baseline handheld-console hybrid has held steady around$ 299 most places– including Amazon– since it released in 2017. It’s yet to be seen whether tariffs or the Switch 2&nbsp release will affect that price. This product was replaced above with the Xbox Series X.

  • For the materials required to run 3D printers, Amazon has a lot of PLA filament. It has held steady around$ 15 on Amazon all year. The HP 962 printer ink was used to replace this item above.

Here are some products we also wanted to single out that haven’t been featured with a graph yet:

Razer Blade 18 ( 2025 ), 5070 Ti edition ): The most recent addition to Razer’s largest gaming laptop saw a$ 300 price increase, with the base model now selling for$ 3,500 less than the$ 3,200 price tag that was previously announced in February. While Razer has stayed mum about the reasoning, it did previously suspend direct sales to the US as Trump’s tariff plans were ramping up in April.

  • The price of the premium version of Asus’s Steam Deck competitor handheld gaming PC recently increased from$ 799 to$ 899, which coincides with the release of the company’s upcoming Xbox-branded Ally handhelds.
