Microsoft is stepping up in the game’s sales pitch today that Fortnite is back on iOS with the help of its Xbox game.
Microsoft filed an amicus brief in district court on Tuesday to defend Fortnite publisher Epic Games, alleging that Apple has” stymied” its efforts to sell games through its mobile Xbox app for iOS.
The Verge reported that the small reads as follows:
The district court’s order allows Apple to maintain its in-app luxury, but it at least should have allowed Microsoft to launch a workable solution by creating a separate website business with link-out functionality for in-app purchases made in sports or other programs. And Microsoft wants to accomplish that. However, Apple has stymied yet this option. Due to Apple’s novel anti-steering policies, which restrict Microsoft’s communication to customers and cost Microsoft an even higher economic cost than before the injunction, prior to the district court’s most new order, Microsoft had been unable to implement linked-out payment ( or perhaps inform users that alternative purchase practices exist ).  ,
Microsoft announced in April that its software would allow users to purchase sports and Game Passes, but it seems that things haven’t turned out as planned. Following a 2021 order, which also resulted in a class-action lawsuit filed this month by developers, Apple was rebuked for failing to follow through on that promise.
The Xbox manufacturer has also made an effort to add the ability to play games through its software, but so far it has been unsuccessful in getting a edition with that have approved.  ,
Apple and Microsoft’s members did not respond to a request for comment right away.  ,  ,
