Since its release, Apple TV Plus  has rapidly expanded its lineup of thought-provoking TV shows. Particularly followers of science fiction are suddenly taking notice.  ,
Sure, the heavyweights in the streaming industry also dominate, but Netflix, Disney Plus, and Prime Video still do. However, owing to indicates like  and Severance, which received a  and a , a staggering 72 Emmy nominations in 2024, along with the streamer’s most recent addition as , an add-on subscription , through Prime Video and its participation in the , Comcast bag, the system that Apple built is finally getting its expected.  ,
Each science fiction show I’m highlighting below goes beyond the norm and is imaginative in its storytelling, staying true to Apple’s stylish branding and, as the company’s famous ad campaign claims,” thinks differently.” There is a lot more sci-fi goodness to explore than just For All Mankind, Foundation, and Dark Matter, which are tops on my list.  ,
CNET’s list of the best genre shows to watch on Apple TV Plus right now is below. You might be interested in a science fiction mystery, an epic monster battle, or something else with a scientific bent. There are choices, choices, choices; so settle in and click play.

In Sunny, a show that Apple TV Plus describes as a dark comedy, Rashida Jones portrays Suzie. Suzie is given a robot to assist her in grieving after her husband and child mysteriously vanish. Suzie begins to learn her husband’s secrets as the show progresses, giving the show a darkly dramatic turn. Sunny appears very Black Mirror-y when viewed through a sleek, near-future lens, which is a good thing.
When the world was dealing with the developing COVID-19 pandemic, calls to Apple TV Plus were made. Hollywood came to an end, leaving artists looking for novel ways to tell their stories. In a series that serves as a throwback to radio plays, Alien Romulus director Fede lvarez gathered a talented cast, including Aubrey Plaza, Pedro Pascal, Danny Pudi, Ben Schwartz, Aaron Taylor-Johnson, and Pedro Pascal, to do just that.  ,
Severance must be the title that cements Apple TV Plus as a streamer devoted to high-concept genre programming, if Ted Lasso set the stage for quirky comedies on the platform. The series follows Mark ( Adam Scott ), a biotech company that has a unique ( but terrifying ) system that maintains its employees ‘ work-life balance. Ben Stiller’s ability to produce and direct the majority of the first season’s episodes demonstrates once more his talent behind the camera.
Hello, Tomorrow!
Hello, Tomorrow! takes place in a retro-future where door-to-door salesmen sell real estate on the moon. The world-building is one of the biggest draws of the series, which unfortunately didn’t get a season 2 renewal. Billy Crudup, Allison Pill, Dawshane Williams, Hank Azaria and Susan Heyward make up the show’s strong cast.
For All Mankind
What kind of society existed if space travel continued? That’s the big question For All Mankind answers. The prestigious sci-fi drama takes place in an alternate world where America and the Soviet Union square off against one another for space supremacy. This is probably the best science fiction series you’re not watching because of the show’s consistently creative visionary director Ronald D. Moore’s and the committed performances of its epic ensemble cast.
Dark Matter
What if we had a different perspective? We have all posed that question at least once throughout our lives. In a high-concept twisted series based on Blake Crouch’s book, that question comes to life. Joel Edgerton stars as Jason, a college professor who experiences an odd assault that alters both his life and reality in the television series. In a show that will keep you guessing through the season finale, Jimmi Simpson, Jimmi Simpson, and Alice Braga also co-star.
Monarch: The Monster Legacy
The Godzilla universe finally came to TV in this Apple TV Plus series. Monarch: The Monster Legacy seeks to reveal the organization’s secrets as they connect to the monsters who leveled San Francisco. Kurt Russell stars in his first role in a TV series in nearly five decades. Here, he and his son Wyatt play Army officer Lee Shaw in the 1950s and present day. The monsters and Russell’s star power alone are reasons enough to tune in.
The Last Days of Ptolemy Grey
Samuel L. Jackson deviates from the superhero genre to focus on issues of age and dementia. He appears in this scene as Ptolemy Grey, an aging man with Alzheimer’s. Ptolemy can regain his wits and find resolution in his own life while also looking for solutions to his nephew’s unexpected death thanks to the support of an orphaned teen and the pioneering research of an extraordinary doctor.
Silo explores a dystopian future world where humanity’s survivors reside in an underground structure by using Hugh Howey’s book trilogy as inspiration. The underground city is permeated by a volatile classist drama. The show is racked up with murder mysteries, a population control program, and the potentially lethal outside world. The ensemble cast is led by Rebecca Ferguson, Common, and Tim Robbins.
Foundation
Apple TV Plus’s epic sci-fi book series adaptation, surpassed all expectations. However, the streamer managed to pull it off. Hari Seldon, a math professor in exile, is played by Jared Harris as the actor who predicted the collapse of the Galactic Empire. As Brother Day, Lee Pace gives a strong performance. The space drama follows Seldon and his followers ‘ humanitarian struggle.
In See, Jason Momoa demonstrates his acting prowess. The program, which was developed by Peaky Blinders mastermind Steven Knight, explores a dystopian future in which people have lost the ability to see. It’s unsurprising to see blind warriors wield weapons for war, and the loss of sight doesn’t slow down people’s ability to fight. Even though the show is a difficult-believer’s idea, Momoa’s charisma and passion shine through.
The series Sugar is a series that wears its love for the film noir genre on its sleeve. Mark Protosevich, the writer behind films like Thor, I Am Legend, and The Cell, is responsible for producing it. Sugar is delightful visually. Add to that Colin Farrell’s soft-spoken, understanding private investigator’s skill, and you have a stylish murder mystery that is both patient and compassionate. Later in the series, an unexpected twist turns the show on its head, turning the story into something entirely entirely new.  ,
