The previously reported announcement that Apple is changing the name of its application updates was confirmed right away at Monday’s Apple Worldwide Developers Conference. Anyone who is familiar with Windows 95 or a ’57 Chevy may find this approach to be common. Apple is using the final two figures of the upcoming season to rebrand its operating systems. When iphone 26 and apps 19 are released in the fall of 2025, that would be equivalent to iOS 18.

Similar to how new car models are introduced, the new number program only displays the final two figures of 2026 rather than the present time of 2025. Both Samsung and Microsoft have adopted year-based naming conventions.

The changes will go by the spellings iPadOS 26, MacOS 26, WatchOS 26, TVOS 26, and VisionOS 26 in an effort to maintain consistency with Apple’s brand and eliminate distress.
