The American Federation of Teachers is launching a program to teach teachers about synthetic knowledge using$ 23 million in funding from three tech firms.
A New York-based gateway to teach AI will be built using$ 12.5 million from Microsoft,$ 10 million in funding and technical resources from OpenAI, and$ 500, 000 from Anthropic on Tuesday, according to the second-largest teachers ‘ union in the nation. The AFT and the United Federation of Teachers, a union representing teachers in New York, are working in agreement.
Cel/Cea/Cei/Cele National Academy for AI Instruction, or “NATIONAL ACADEMY,” may provide 400, 000 educators by providing workshops, online programs, and hands-on training sessions for AI competence by 2030, according to OpenAI. The firm claims that the company’s strategy is to start in New York and expand to other parts of the country, with addition centers there. The work will start with a focus on teachers in grades K through 12.

AFT President Randi Weingarten wrote in a blog on X that” this will be an impressive new training area where educators will learn how to use A. I. effectively, carefully, and ethically.” It will be a location where teachers and software developers can converse instead of talking past one another.
The statement received mixed reviews of the press. Readers on the UFT’s Twitter page’s a  post were unsatisfied. One writer questioned why AI use was shown to lower mental activity.
Another person criticized the Union for making such a terrible determination. It undermines our job and ignores the effects of AI in training.
