It’s got one of the best fiber internet service options anywhere, according to our analysis of speed and pricing data. Xfinity is the second-best option with four plans. Its 1,300 Mbps plan is the fastest in the area.

If you can’t get Verizon Fios or Xfinity at your address — about 30% of the city lacks fiber access — internet speeds are more of a mixed bag, especially since cable and fixed wireless lack the nearly identical upload and download speeds that fiber is known for. Richmond’s median internet speed is on the slower side. The city ranked 86th out of the 100 most populous cities, according to Ookla’s most recent data.
