For CNET’s tax impact tracker, I’ve been monitoring many well-known products every day and keeping an eye out for price increases as a result of President Donald Trump’s import tax plan. Most prices I’ve been looking at have remained steady thus much, apart from a significant boost for the Xbox 360 Series X, and the odd discounts during major purchase periods, which is currently the case for some famous earbuds and a budget-friendly soundbar. Despite all of this, the effects of these transfer taxes are still being felt until a , business court ruling or halts them.
The Trump presidency has, understandably, decried this decision– which said Trump had no authority to set taxes as he has been– and moved quickly to demand that the Supreme Court strike it over. In the end, we’ll see how that turns out, but for now, it’s still possible that the government’s tariff policies may cause price increases. That’s why I’m continuing to observe some essential products you may want or need to buy immediately, to keep track of the possible tariff impacts.

Methodology
We’re checking costs regularly and will upgrade the article and the important charts straight away to reveal any changes. The most recent of the following figures is marked” Now” and displays the current price. Each one has a second bullet point for each month. For the past weeks, we’ve gone with what was the most popular price for each piece in the given month.  ,
In most cases, the cost numbers used in these maps were pulled from Amazon using the traditional price-tracker application Keepa. The prices for the iPhones are based on the 128-gigabyte basic design of the most recent offerings for each year: the iPhone 14, phone 15, and iPhone 16. They are based on Apple’s established materials. For the Xbox 360 Series X, the charges were sourced from Best Get using the device PriceTracker. If any of these goods are going to be on sale at any particular moment, we’ll be sure to let you know and discuss how these value drops may be affected by potential longer-term sales trends.
The 11 materials we’re tracking
Electronic devices and electronic items that CNET covers in breadth, like iPhones and cheap 4K TVs, are primarily what we’re tracking in this article, along with the common carrier of coffee, a more modest product that isn’t produced in the US in any significant way.  ,
Some of the products featured are well-known and/or reasonably priced representatives of well-known and reasonably priced consumer tech products, such as smartphones, TVs, and game consoles. Others are meant to represent things that consumers might buy more frequently, like printer ink or coffee beans. Some goods were chosen over others because they are likely to be more prone to tariffs. Some of these products have been reviewed by CNET or have been featured in some of our best lists.
We’ll get into more detail about each individual product below, and stay until the end for a rundown of some other noteworthy items.
iPhone 16
Since the iPhone is the most well-known brand of smartphones in the US, price tracking was a top priority. The iPhone has also emerged as a major focal point for conversations about tariffs, given its popularity and its susceptibility to import taxes because of its overseas production, largely in China. Trump reportedly has a fixation on the notion that the iPhone can and should be produced in the US, a notion that experts have dismissed as a fantasy. Estimates have also suggested that a US-made iPhone would cost as much as$ 3, 500.
The price shown is what you’ll see if you purchase your phone from a major carrier, so there’s something to keep in mind about this graph. If you, say, buy direct from Apple or Best Buy without a carrier involved, you’ll be charged an extra$ 30, so in some places, you might see the list price of the standard iPhone 16 listed as$ 830.
In response to these tariffs, Apple has been taking a few precautions, including moving production from China to India in bulk shipments of products before they go into effect. This latter move drew the anger of Trump again, threatening the company with a 25 % tariff if they didn’t move production to the US, an idea CEO Tim Cook has repeatedly shot down in the past. The future of that action seems uncertain now that Trump granted a tariff exemption for electronic devices, including smartphones.
Apple’s flagship device is still the top-selling smartphone globally, as of Q1 of this year, although new research from the firm Counterpoint suggests that tariff uncertainty will cause the brand’s growth to stall a bit throughout the rest of 2025.
AA batteries from Duracell
A lot of the tech products in your home might boast a rechargeable energy source but individual batteries are still an everyday essential and I can tell you from experience that as soon as you forget about them, you’ll be needing to restock. The Duracell AAs we’re tracking are some of the top-selling batteries on Amazon.
Samsung DU7200 TV
Televisions are among the most well-known tech products available, even if they aren’t as frequently purchased as smartphones are. This particular product is a popular entry-level 4K TV and was CNET’s pick for best overall budget TV for 2025. Samsung is a South Korean company, which may have some form of tariff resistance, in contrast to many other tech products that have strong supply chains in China.  ,
Xbox 360 Series X
Video game software and hardware are a market segment expected to be hit hard by the Trump tariffs. Microsoft’s Xbox is the first console brand to see price hikes — the company cited “market conditions” along with the rising cost of development. Most notably, this included an increase in the price of the flagship Xbox 360 Series X, up from $500 to $600. Numerous Xbox accessories also were affected and the company also said that “certain” games will eventually see a price hike from $70 to $80.
Initially, we were tracking the price of the much more popular Nintendo Switch as a representative of the gaming market. Nintendo has not yet increased the price of its handheld-console hybrid, and it has stressed that the upcoming Switch 2’s$ 450 price tag has not yet been inflated as a result of tariff increases. Sony, meanwhile, has so far only increased prices on its PlayStation hardware in markets outside the US.
AirPods Pro 2
The latest iteration of Apple’s wildly popular true-wireless earbuds are here to represent the headphone market. A quick look at the Amazon sales charts on the internet shows you how much the brand dominates all headphone sales, much to the chagrin of the audiophiles out there. Earlier in the year, they tended to hover around$ 199 on the site, a notable discount from its$ 249 list price, but the price is currently the much more enticing$ 169, so move fast if you want an affordable pair. ( Or perhaps just hold off on the rumored AirPods Pro 3.)
HP 962 CMY printer ink
This HP printer ink is made up of cyan, magenta, and yellow all in one package, and it recently saw its price increase from about$ 72, which is about its highest level in the last five years. We will be keeping tabs to see if this is a long-term change or a brief uptick.
We’re still tracking the item because it replaced Overture PLA Filament for 3D printers in this piece.
Anker 10, 000-mAh, 30-watt power bank
Anker’s accessories are a resolutely popular item in the tech market, and the company has already stated that some of its items will soon become more expensive as a result of tariff increases. This specific product has also been featured in some of CNET’s lists of the best portable chargers. It is currently available for$ 13 or 50 % off for a limited time, though the price has remained constant throughout the year.
Bose TV speaker
Given the frequently iffy sound quality of the speakers installed in TVs, soundbars have grown to be significant purchases. While not the biggest or the best offering in the space, the Bose TV Speaker is one of the more affordable soundbar options out there, especially hailing from a brand as popular as Bose. Although this item has been one of the list’s steadiest price throughout the year, it is currently on sale for$ 199, possibly as part of Amazon’s Memorial Day sale. So, if you’re looking for an affordable, tariff-free TV speaker, now might be the time.
Electric toothbrushes like the Oral-B Pro 1000
They might be a lot more expensive than their traditional counterparts but electric toothbrushes remain a popular choice for consumers because of how well they get the job done. My dentist will never forget how important I need one, I am sure. This particular Oral-B offering was CNET’s overall choice for the best electric toothbrush , for 2025.
Chromebook from Lenovo IdeaPad Flex 5i
Lenovo is notable among the big laptop manufacturers for being a Chinese company making its products especially susceptible to Trump’s tariffs.
( 28-ounce bag ) Starbucks Ground Coffee
Coffee is included in this tracker because of its ubiquity– I’m certainly drinking too much of it these days– and because it’s uniquely susceptible to Trump’s tariff agenda. Known as the” Coffee Belt,” a tropical region largely outside the United States, limits the cultivation of coffee beans to a certain distance from the equator.
Hawaii is the only part of the US that can produce coffee beans, with data , from USAFacts showing that 11.5 million pounds were harvested there in the 2022-23 season– little more than a drop in the mug, as the US consumed 282 times that amount of coffee during that period. Making matters worse, there hasn’t been as much production of Hawaiian coffee in the last few years.
All that to say: Americans get almost all of their coffee from overseas, making it one of the most likely products to see price hikes from tariffs.
Other Goods
As mentioned before, we occasionally swap out products with different ones that undergo notable price shifts. Here are some things we’re keeping an eye on that aren’t currently featured above:
- Nintendo Switch: The baseline handheld-console hybrid has held steady around $299 most places — including Amazon — since it released in 2017. Whether or not that price will be impacted by tariffs or the impending release of the Switch 2 remains to be seen. This product was replaced above with the Xbox 360 Series X.
- For the material needed to run 3D printers, Amazon has a popular choice: Overture PLA 3D printer filament. It has held steady around$ 15 on Amazon all year. The HP 962 printer ink was used to replace this item above.
Here are some products we also wanted to single out that haven’t been featured with a graph yet:
- Razer Blade 18 ( 2025 ), 5070 Ti edition ): The most recent addition to Razer’s largest gaming laptop saw a$ 300 price increase recently, with the base model now selling for$ 3,500 less than the$ 3,200 price increase. While Razer has stayed mum about the reasoning, it did previously suspend direct sales to the US as Trump’s tariff plans were ramping up in April.
