Apple simply announced iphone 26, a branded version of the software that powers the phone at WWDC 2025.
With the release of the next iphone version, which has a fresh look called Liquid Glass that mimics the physical characteristics of glasses like the VisionOS program on Vision Pro, Apple has determined that the future of the iPhone is brighter and more light. And how do we realize that it will be in the future? Because the newest phone system is now known as iphone 26, it was renamed in order to correspond with the upcoming year as part of a lineup-wide marketing to deliver uniformity to the program names, such as MacOS 26 and WatchOS 26.
The phone is getting a new look after more than a decade of a smooth, clean user interface, which was changed when past Apple main design officer Jony Ive assumed control of both the design of software and hardware. The new design extends from iphone to Os and perhaps TVOS to the entire Apple product line.
With Liquid Glass, notifications and buttons are glass panels on the home screen.
Apple/CNET/Joe Maldonado ScreenshotLuster is the defining quality of wet goblet, which behaves similarly to cup in the real world by controlling both the color and the presence of light in the surroundings and near controls. In Apple’s terms, “liquid” is how controls you connect and adapt, or “dynamically morphing.” Now that the widget and port are rounded, crystalline panel that float above the history,
Apple clearly made a lot of physical glass designs when coming up with the new Liquid Glass interface.
Apple/CNET/Joe Maldonado ScreenshotPhotos and Camera software are even more bare.
A new, streamlined software is being added to the Camera app. You may argue that the present Camera app is essentially a bare minimum of features that allow you to quickly frame a picture and press the great shutter. However, once you enter the perimeter, it turns into a strange combination of unintuitive icons and buried controls.
The Camera app has fewer distractions.
Apple/CNET/Joe Maldonado ScreenshotA “new more instinctive design” that “takes minimalism to the severe” is now available in the iOS 26 Cameras app. Only two controls are visible in the sleek style: the camera or the video. To select forms, click left or right. Plug for more options and touch up for configurations like aspect ratio and timers.
Viewing the photos you get should now be easier with the updated Photos app, which is a delightful improvement over iOS 18’s confusing attempt. Photos returns a Liquid Glass list at the bottom of the screen rather than a lengthy, difficult-to-discover browsing program.  ,
The Photos app gets a welcome redesign.
Apple/CNET/Joe Maldonado ScreenshotRedesigns are made to the Phone game.
The Phone software adheres more strongly to the original design than others, which is a free interface with large buttons that resembles a pre-smartphone mobile phone or an conventional headset. With the release of iOS 26, users can eventually benefit from the larger screen space on today’s iPhone models by updating the interface to a unified design.
However, it’s not just the appearances that are unique. The Phone game tries to be more helpful in handling calls that are actually made, the ones you want to make. Calls from unknown numbers are immediately answered by the Call Screening characteristic, and only when the caller gives their name and reason for calling return.
Or what about all the day that has been squandered? Hold Assist instantly detects keep music, allowing the call to be muted but remain connected. The telephone rings and indicates that you will be available immediately when a live representative is available.
changes to messages
One of the most popular iPhone apps, the Messages apps, has been updated to make it more beautiful with iOS 26. You can add powerful backgrounds that show off the fresh Liquid Glass interface to the chat windows as well.
No more having to scroll back to find out which cafe Brett suggested for breakfast that you missed out on because team texts in Messages may include polls for everyone in the team to respond to. People of the talk can also put their personal items to polls.
A feature that makes it easier to identify phishing texts and display unknown numbers makes it easier to identify them, allowing you to view the messages you want to see rather than those that distract you.
Safari makes up its mind for its own actions.
The Liquid Glass style in the Safari game floats the page club above the web page ( although it appears to be where your fingers will be, so it’s interesting to see if you can move the club to the top of the screen ). The page bar shrinks as you scroll.
Chat concentrates on names rather than controls.
Controls in the lower-right part of the call vanish during the contact to get out of the way also appear in a little manner on FaceTime. Banners of your contacts, as well as video clips from previous calls, are posted on the FaceTime home page to make the game more interesting.
FaceTime minimizes its controls into one corner.
Apple/CNET/Joe Maldonado Screenshotapps 18 introduced a number of ways to customize the phone experience next year. You can change the order of the game icons on the home screen so they don’t feel as rigid as they did before, and you can ultimately alter or eliminate the app buttons on the lock screen. You can also set up Control Center to add the controls you want in a certain order.
Additionally, iOS 18 introduced the new Passwords app, which stores all of your login information and passkeys in one place, as well as a redesigned Photos app ( which has received a mixed reception ).
The finished iOS 26 release date, if Apple adheres to its original schedule, will be September or October with new iPhone 17 models. Developers are scheduled to have access to the first developer betas  starting today, with the first public beta set to roll out in a few weeks. ( Don’t forget to enter any beta software with a clear goal in mind, open eyes, and expectations. )
Details about Apple’s announcements can be found on the WWDC 2025 live blog.
This is a developing tale.
