ChatGPT usage is increasing, but a surprising number of Americans also don’t know what it’s like.

According to new&nbsp, poll results released this week by the Pew Research Center, one in five Americans claim to have never heard of the conceptual AI&nbsp application ChatGPT, while a third of Americans claim to have used it.

58 % of people under 30 reported using the general AI application from OpenAI, the highest percentage among any age group. With age, the proportion of people using ChatGPT scades: 41 % of those aged 30 to 49, 25 % of those aged 50 to 64, and 10 % of those over 65. Additionally, there is a connection between training. About half of people with bachelor’s or post-graduate degree reported using the Artificial tool. And only 33 % of those who have attended school or received at least a high school diploma said the same thing. ( Disclosure: In April, Ziff Davis, the parent company of CNET, sued OpenAI, alleging that it violated Ziff Davis ‘ copyrights when it trained and ran its AI systems. )

Over the past few years, the use of ChatGPT and another general AI resources has increased significantly. At the end of 2022, ChatGPT gained a lot of fans and has since become a family name. That is confirmed by the Pew study. Since July 2023, the proportion of adults in America who have used ChatGPT has nearly doubled. However, ChatGPT is not the only instrument of its kind. Other software companies have created their own huge language models, including Llama and Google’s Gemini.

The results of a panel of 5, 123 adults who were polled between February 24 and March 2 in the Pew survey demonstrate how people have become more adept at using these tools, which can help with everything from writing documents to providing solutions that are comparable to those found in search results ( though perhaps not quite as correct ). 26 % of employed adults said they used AI tools to learn new things, 22 % said they did it for entertainment, and 28 % said they did the same at work.

In addition, according to other recent Pew research, many American workers were concerned about the potential negative consequences of using AI at work. Various studies have shown that even as AI has become more prevalent in the workplace, it has its negative social effects, as coworkers and supervisors may judge those who admit to using AI. Of course, not everyone makes use of these devices. According to the Pew research findings, 20 % of people are unaware of ChatGPT. That figure is highest for those over the age of 65, at 33 %, or for those with a high school diploma or lower, at 34 %.

The benefits of a separate research conducted by Menlo Ventures that polled more than 5, 000 US people about AI apply match up with the Pew study findings. According to the study, 19 % of respondents use AI every day and 61 % of respondents said they’ve used it in the last six months. According to its findings, Gen Z had the highest share of AI users of any generation, with 76 %, while millennials were more likely to use AI every day at 24 %, compared to Gen Z at 21 %. The study by Menlo Ventures examined the most widely used AI tools and found that ChatGPT is the “default tool” for 28 % of AI users, followed by Gemini at 23 %.
